Czech TV head dismissed

The Board of Czech Television (ČT) has dismissed the broadcaster’s CEO Jan Souček and replaced him on an interim basis by the deputy CEO Michal Fila. Souček had been in post since October 2023 and the Board decided that he had violated the Act on ČT through such actions as cancelling public affairs programmes. It now has three months to appoint a new CEO.

 
Inea adds Canal+

The Polish cable operator Inea has added the streaming service Canal+ to its offer. The service offers viewers 41 live channels online, as well as a large selection of on demand titles. In a separate development, the Polish public broadcaster is moving over viewers from its TVP Stream service to TVP VOD.

 
Apple Vision Pro first in Ukraine

Megogo has become the first company in Ukraine to launch an app for Apple Vision Pro. It allows users to watch TV channels, movies and series in a mixed reality environment, getting a unique immersive experience. Kyiv-based Megogo is a provider of OTT and VOD services and has a presence in several countries in Central and Eastern Europe.

 
News consumption in Hungary: the stats

Social media and television dominate news consumption in Hungary, with new digital platforms also increasingly in the picture. According to the regulator NMHH, referencing research it undertook with Társadalomkutató last December, the majority of respondents access news via one of social media sites (71%) or television (69%). Furthermore, more than half (55%) of internet users over the age of 16 use online news portals regularly for information. In addition, video sharing sites (38%) and radio (35%) play a smaller but not negligible role. The research also notes that many people obtain information from podcasts (18%), blogs, forums (15%), and content produced by influencers (14%). The importance of the printed press, however, has declined significantly, with only 11% of respondents indicating it as a regular source of news.

 
Changes at the top for PPF Group

PPF Group, the parent company of Central European Media Enterprises (CME), has appointed Kateřina Jirásková (CFO) and Didier Stoessel (CIO) as new co-CEOs. They will take over the PPF Group’s executive management, supported by an enlarged and enhanced Board of Directors. PPF Group has also announced a record net profit of €3.2 billion in 2024.

 
YouTube milestone for Suspilne

Ukraine’s Suspilne Noviny now has over 1 million subscribers on its YouTube channel. Furthermore, as of last month all Suspilne Noviny pages on YouTube had 6.5 million subscribers, of which the largest share was made up of Suspilne Noviny and all 23 regional information channels 5.2 million subscribers. The Suspilne Noviny YouTube channel is operated by the Ukrainian public broadcaster and offers world news, along with exclusive interviews, reports, investigations, live broadcasts and special programmes. It was created in 2017 through the reform of state broadcasting in the country.

 
Prima extends CNN deal

The Czech Republic’s Prima Group has signed a five-year licence extension with CNN International for its news channel CNN Prima News. The channel was launched in 2020 and currently has a market share of 2.36% among viewers aged 15+.

 
Conference review: HerBizz International 2025

Gazprom-Media partners with India’s Quantext

Gazprom-Media has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Indian company Quantext Media Private Limited. The agreement, reached at the World Audiovisual & Entertainment Summit (2025) in Mumbai, provides for the possibility of the two parties creating joint content and developing the blogosphere. Quantext are a leading artist management, event management and content production company in India, specialising in events, digital and television content production.

 
Jean-François Fallacher to head Eutelsat

Eutelsat has appointed Jean-François Fallacher its new CEO, effective June 1. Fallacher has previously held several key roles in the telecom industry, including CEO of Orange in Poland and Romania. He will replace Eva Berneke, who has headed Eutelsat since January 2022.
